So, I’ve recently celebrated my 3X
birthday and damn, I feel
great. To me, age is just a number, its how you feel, love your life and
yourself. Surround yourself with great people, people who will stimulate
your brain, inspire you professionally and on a personal level, treat
you with kindness and respect, and most importantly
trust and honestly. You cannot have any relationship without trust and
honestly. Okay, enough about me and my hallmark comments, let’s talk
about aging gracefully!
First of all, I feel very blessed because
I’ve inherited great genes from my mom’s side of the family. That’s
always a bonus! Aside from having good genes, which is just a small
piece of the pie. There are many ways to age gracefully.
Here are some tips for all you wonderful blog readers out there. I call it, the FAB 8s!
1. Genetics, need I say more?
2.
Exercise, is so important. There are a million and one excuses not to
go, I know and I totally get it. Trust me, been there, done that!
However, once you’ve found that right class, routine or gym, working out
regularly will become your lifestyle. You will incorporate it into your
daily, or week regime. Some people like myself have joined a Fitness
Club rather than a gym like Good life, or LA Fitness. The biggest
difference between a club and an gym is the membership fee … CHA CHING
$$$$$. However, I’d much rather be paying more money for a club
membership, where I’ll actually go regularly and make friends and form
life long relationship with other club members and instructors then pay a
lot less and never go! Make this part of your lifestyle, and embrace
it!
3. Stay hydrated, I am always carrying my Japanese made Thermo
bottle, especially when I’m in the office. Keeping your body hydrated
not only helps with weight management and detox, it’ll also give you
great skin!
4. Detox, who says you need to spend a lot of money on
detox shakes or programs from health stores. All you need is to start
every morning with a glass of warm lemon water. Now that’s what I call
“Cheap and Cheerful”.
5. Super Foods, know what they are and try
to incorporate them into your diet. I’m sure you’ve all heard words like
.. Kale, Spirulina, Beets, Wheat Grass, Chia, etc. They come in raw
form and/or supplements too. Check out your local health food stores for
more info on Supplements best suitable for your needs and lifestyle.
6.
Skincare, we should all be taking good care of our skin at an early
age. Don’t be watching your face with Dove soap. Get something that’s
suitable for your skin type, that won’t leave heavy residues and/or
leave your ph level imbalanced. My best advice of skincare is, prevent
so you won’t have to waste money down the road to correct! Fine lines
are caused by dehydration and dryness. Applying an appropriate
moisturizer on your face on a regular basis is a must. Same with eye
cream. The skin around your eye area is much finer than the rest of your
face, which means lighter texture products are more suitable, and no
facial moisturizers on your eyes. This could cause more problems down
the road, like ugly white heads on your eyes, or potential skin
irritations.
7. Sun Protection, many of my friends and
colleagues will laugh at me for putting on SPF50+++ but believe me, my
wallet will thank me later! Back in the day, like most teenagers and
girls in their early 20′s, I vacationed a lot down in the Caribbeans.
The goal was to come back looking DARK. Not just tanned but DARK! DARK
LIKE CHOCOLATE!!! How did I achieve my tan? Like most people, I had
maybe SPF 10 and loaded on the banana boat tanning oil. Lucky for me, I
didn’t do that for too many years because I noticed many of my friends
started to have these freckles all over their faces and bodies. Well, we
called them freckles at the time, but now they are called “sun spots”
or “AGE spots”… YUCK!!! These spots will only increase or enlarge over a
period of time without treatments. Some can also turn into skin cancer.
So bottom line is, its not just about looking good, but its more for
health reasons!
8. Be Happy, why be sad and grump when you
can be happy! Its that simple. Life is just too short to be miserable,
so why not enjoy! Cherish your life, your families, friends, and all
that you have. Happy people will attract positive energy, people, and
opportunities. Just like the Secret, Laws of attraction.
“The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a
Woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly
gives, the passion that she knows.”
– Audrey Hepburn
I’m sure I could’ve included a few more items
on my list, like sleep, diet, living a balanced life, but we could cover
them in my upcoming blog entries!
Until next time …. Be Happy!
Cheers,
